The Ottawa Gatineau Chapter of CRPS is proud to introduce Charlene Gaudet APR, FCPRS, as its newest member of the College of Fellows.

Charlene has gained more than 25 years of experience in communications and public relations while serving the Government of Canada, the Government of New Brunswick, as well as the non-profit and private sectors.  She derives great satisfaction in her current position at the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency where she and her team play a pivotal role in ensuring interested Canadians have access to information and opportunities to be engaged in projects that may affect their communities.

The Ottawa-Gatineau Chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society (CRPS) is proud to introduce three local members who have successfully completed the requirements of becoming accredited members of the CPRS in 2010.  Thérèse Beaulieu APR,  Diane Ridell APR and Kristen Schell, APR have demonstrated their commitment to the practice of public relations and communications. Congratulations Thérèse, Diane and Kristen!

The APR is the highest global professional standard of excellence in public relations.  Employers and clients hiring public relations practitioners with an APR are getting leaders in public relations that are recognized in and outside of the profession for their knowledge, experience, expertise and ethics.
To become accredited and earn the Accredited Public Relations (APR) designation, a candidate must engage in specialized studies, pass rigorous written and oral examinations, and submit a detailed work sample. To even qualify to take the CPRS accreditation examination, a candidate must have earned a solid reputation of integrity and high ethical standards while completing a minimum of five years of full-time employment in the field of public relations.

Six (6) CPRS Ottawa-Gatineau Members have been nominated to open positions on the 2010/11 Board of Directors.  The nominees will be elected by attending members at the CPRS Ottawa-Gatineau Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 25, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Ottawa.

We look forward to presenting to you the Board of Directors, including Directors appointed during the 2009/2010 year. The newly elected Directors will join the Board to serve two-year terms.

2010 Edition of Take the Leap Conference a Success

Thanks to all of you who attended our 2010 edition of Take the Leap…From Good to Great full-day mini-conference. We are grateful to Dave Fleet, Daniel Tisch, APR, David C. Kardish, APR, Mark Blevis, Joanne John, Pam Aung and CPRS President Dr. Terry Flynn, APR, FCPRS for contributing to a wonderful day of  professional development. A few highlights from the day included a cheque presentation from Carolyn McGill-Davidson, President and CEO of CNW Group, for over $120,000 to the Red Cross. Also, Jim Armour, was awarded his APR designation. Special thanks to Benoit Laplante, Chair of the Conference Planning Committee, as well as his committee members and students from the Algonquin PR Program Agency for organizing a wonderful day.  The next Take a Leap conference will be held Friday, Feb 24th, 2012! Hope to see you then.

Attention Students: Torchia Scholarship in Public Relations/Communications deadline approaching.

The deadline to submit an application for this scholarship program is April 30. The Scholarship is awarded to a student who has chosen to study public relations/communications in one of Canada’s two official languages that is not his/her first language or mother tongue. The student will be entering his/her second year of study at a Canadian university or college, in either a degree program or a multiyear diploma or certificate program that meets recognized standards of education. The 22nd annual public relations program charity fundraiser is just around the corner. This year, students have teamed-up with Ottawa-base ICAfrica. Here is a listing of upcoming events organized by the PR students:
