Salary and Benefits:

CIHR offers attractive benefits. The salary will be based on the individual’s qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position is $88,540 to $110,675 per annum with eligibility for performance pay.

Merit Criteria

Essential Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or any other field deemed relevant.

Experience:

  • Significant experience (10 to 15 years) in communications or public affairs in at least 7 the following areas:
    • Media relations
    • Public affairs
    • Issues management
    • Crisis management
    • Internal communications
    • Government relations
    • Events management
    • Marketing
    • Writing
    • Publications
  • Experience in managing sensitive and high-profile issues.
  • Experience in providing strategic advice to senior management on the long-term orientation of government and media relations and related initiatives.
  • Experience in high pressure and rapidly changing environments.
  • Managerial experience which demonstrates administrative and inter-personal skills (e.g. financial planning and reporting, operational planning and human resource management) as well as the ability to interpret policies and programs and to make sound judgments.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CIHR’s legal context and obligation in the area of internal and external communications.
  • Strong practical understanding of CIHR’s regulatory environment and the communications requirements for the agency as part of the Government of Canada.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian political scene.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Good judgment
  • Strategic communications planning
  • Exceptional time management skills and well organized.

Language Requirements:

Bilingual imperative (CBC/CBC)
