National Communications Director - Scouts Cda

Scouts Canada offers the following full-time National Communications Director position for a one-year term, commencing June, 2008. A four-day work week on a pro-rata basis is negotiable.
Located in Ottawa, the National Office administers the National activities of Scouts Canada as well as providing support to over 20 regional centers representing more than 95,000 youth members and adult volunteers across Canada.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and leading a team of seven full-time employees, you will apply your external and internal communications skills, to direct and manage the communications and marketing strategies for Scouts Canada, and it’s magazine publishing affiliate. A key activity will be to help Scouts Canada become a web destination of choice for our members and other interested youth and potential adult volunteers.
If you possess persuasive oral and written communication skills, demonstrate confidence in responding to the media, and exude passion and creativity, we would like to meet with you.
This position is located in central Ottawa, in a modern office, close to amenities. Compensation is in the range of $55,000 to $61,000 per annum, based upon a 35-hour workweek. A competitive group health benefit package is provided.
Your Responsibilities will include:
- Support Scouts Canada’s annual communications plan
· Manage all Corporate internal and external communications strategies
- Develop national marketing collateral
- Act as primary media spokesperson for Scouts Canada
· Support reputation management strategies
- Oversee production and distribution of Scouts Canada’s National Leader Magazine
- Provide strategic content management of Scouts Canada’s Corporate Website
- Advise regional managers concerning local communications activities
Your Experience should include:
· Solid background in External and Internal communications
· Demonstrated ability to appropriately respond to media; experience in crisis management would be considered an asset
· Experience with Web 2.0 and Social Media marketing and communications strategies
· Excellent analytical, planning, problem solving and decision-making skills
· Ability to produce timely, accurate and clear copy for internal and external audiences
· Thorough knowledge of design and production tools and processes
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a wide range of people and issues
· Accurate, detail-oriented, self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision
· Act in accordance with Scouting’s Mission and Principles
· Oral and written French language skills is an asset
