Senior Public Affairs Officer (IS-5), The NRC Secretary General’s Office, Ottawa

Duties

This position will appeal to a detail oriented professional who wants to put their planning, writing, and project coordination skills to the test in a dynamic work environment. As a member of the Public Affairs team, the successful candidate will find that the high energy pace and the range of diverse issues will provide ample challenges to test their superior skills. As the focus of the position is the research, writing, and coordination of executive speeches and presentations, the incumbent must have above average client-service orientation, solid research and writing skills, and must be comfortable interfacing with senior executives on a regular basis. The incumbent will also support the executive team with other communications and stakeholder relations support. The Public Affairs group is a small team that handles a vast array of time-sensitive issues for the NRC and/or the Executive Offices. As such, the Senior Public Affairs Officer will be called upon to lead or support a variety of other related activities or initiatives within the Public Affairs Group and the Executive Offices.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates.

Education

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, or another field directly related to the position
  • Candidates who do not possess a university degree in one of these disciplines but who possess an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered

Experience

  • Experience writing speeches, presentations, and other communications products such as news releases, brochures, etc.
  • Experience writing communications plans and/or strategies.
  • Experience providing advice to senior managers on communications related issues.
  • Experience managing projects
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have experience in executive speech writing and coordination.

Salary Range

From $77,423 to $83,000 per annum plus the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 a year.
