Senior Policy Analyst (Term) – CMPA
The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is a non-profit medical mutual defence organization with more than 100 years of national experience related to virtually every medico-legal issue. About 95 per cent of the doctors licensed to practise in Canada are CMPA members.
The CMPA protects the professional integrity of doctors by providing services including legal defence, indemnification, risk management, educational programs and general advice. In addition, we promote and support medico-legal and practical measures likely to improve the practice of medicine.
JOB TITLE: Senior Policy Analyst
TERMS: 4-Month Term positionC
SALARY: $65,792 to $98,688 with a control point of $82,240
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communications and External Relations, the Senior Policy Analyst provides policy support to the achievement of the Association’s strategic and operational outcomes. This includes environmental scanning and the development of policy papers, presentations, backgrounders, corporate reports and briefs.
As such, the Analyst conducts daily monitoring of the external environment to identify issues and opportunities for the Association. The position also supports stakeholder engagement activities by senior management or Council and is responsible for maintaining the stakeholder database.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* 4-year undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study (i.e., health or social sciences, administration, public policy). Masters Degree would be an asset.
* 8 to 10 years’ comprehensive policy development and implementation experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) with a minimum of 4 years’ working with and advising governors and senior managers.
* Ability to take ownership and assumes accountability.
* Strategic thinker, with superior research and analytical capability.
* Proven experience in the development of policy frameworks, including development of positions papers, presentations, backgrounders and other support material.
* Proven experience in formal market intelligence and environmental scanning, specifically, identifying and analyzing issues, trends, developments across industries or associations in the health sector.
* Strong consultation and facilitative abilities, including an ability to communicate with a range of individuals on complex matters and to bring conflicting points of view to consensus.
* A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, to share ideas and learn from others.
* Must be able to solve problems independently and in-group discussion.
* Ability to work independently, possessing good judgement, initiative and discretion.
* Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
* Strong English written and oral communication skills, including preparing and delivering information sessions and presentations. Bilingualism would be an asset.
* Knowledge of the health care environment enterprises.
* Advanced computer skills for word processing, presentations and data analysis.
