Community Relations Manager, Waste Management

We are looking for an experienced professional to join our team. As a key member of our Project Management Team the Community Relations Manager will serve as a company representative in the community. The position will focus on developing, managing and implementing community relations plans and programs as well as media relations and public affairs support.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies business objectives that have community relations implications both short term and long term in the context of the project.
- Develops and implements community relations plans, strategies and programs to support identified business objectives as well as builds positive relations within the community.
- Working with the business unit, develops and manages a strategic community investment program. This includes the WM Charitable Giving Program, Community Sponsorships, and the Employee Volunteer Program with an emphasis on Education and Environment.
- Develops and implements strategic community outreach programs which emphasize and promote education. Target audiences include schools, colleges, universities, service clubs, community associations, seniors, church groups, and environmental groups.
- Working with the business unit, develops, oversees, and tracks community relations budget and spending.
- Represents WM in the local community.
- Cultivates and enhances community partnerships by attending and participating in public events, meetings and other programs on behalf of the organization.
- Monitors local community issues and proposes WM involvement as appropriate.
- Oversees and coordinates the implementation of grassroots/mobilization campaigns as needed.
- Develops and coordinates the preparation and delivery of information, including advertising and electronic communications, fact sheets, newsletters, photographs, scripts and/or tape recordings in order to keep the public informed of company programs, accomplishments, or point of view.
- Acts as liaison between local media and Waste Management.
Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in Community Relations or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years Community Relations or related experience
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and active listening
- Superior interpersonal skills – ability to interact successfully with a cross section of community representatives
- Sound judgment and decision making skills
- Strong management skills in working with internal staff and outside consultants/vendors
- Experience in managing a budget
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to create and present company presentations
- Proven experience as a company or project spokesperson
- Experience in responding to and being proactive with the media
- High ethical standards with a demonstrated ability to foster and build trust within the community
