E-Publications Designer/Writer, Canadian Bar Association
The Canadian Bar Association is a professional organization formed in 1896, and incorporated by a Special Act of Parliament in 1921. The Association represents over 37,000 lawyers, judges, notaries, law teachers, and law students from across Canada.
The Canadian Bar Association National office in Ottawa is accepting applications for the position of E-Publications Designer/Writer. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief of National, the E-publication Designer/Writer is responsible for the development, design, and production of bilingual web-based electronic communications for the national CBA and its Branches. Working within the publication policies and information technology standards set by CBA, the Designer/Writer will be responsible for the production of e-templates and individual e-communications on deadline, web page updating and postings as assigned by the web Editor, and blast e-mails and e-communications for Sections, Conferences, Committees, and Board.
- Develops, designs and produces e-communications products as assigned within the publishing and technological parameters established by the CBA.
- Provides on-going support to CBA stakeholders to maximize the use of the technology while producing professional e-publications and web postings.
- Develops templates to the specifications set by National and Branch users for e-communications and web postings.
- Designs, writes, edits, and produces content for the CBA including, but not limited to Section, Conference, and Committee web pages, newsletters, notices, National and Branch newsletters, e-mails and notices.
- Assists with the production and sending of targeted e-newsletters (e.g. Addendum) including the advertising insertions.
- Implements CBA bilingualism, Internet and publications policy.
- Liaises with staff and volunteer editors.
- Completes other Communications tasks assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education essential.
- Diploma or related experience in Web Development.
- Knowledge of law an asset.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Functional knowledge of French.
- Strong web design skills, including knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Strong graphic design skills, including Photoshop, Illustrator/Freehand, and Flash.
- Word processing, email, Internet.
- Experience in writing, editing, production or equivalent.
- Organizational skills.
- Interpersonal skills; experience working with volunteers a definite asset.
- A self-starter, and a team player; and
- Ability to work under pressure in any job-related situation efficiently and effectively.
Liaison Duties
Works with other Communications and IT staff to develop e-communications targeted to specific audiences. Liaises with National and Branch staffers, including committees, sections, and conference and volunteers to develop electronic notices, e-mails and newsletters.
