This is a two year term position with possibility of renewal with the NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL CANADA.

Your Challenge

 

The Senior Communications Officer plays a key role in the development, implementation and delivery of effective internal and external communications products and services in support of the strategic and business objectives of the Codes and Evaluation Program of NRC’s Institute for Research in Construction (NRC-IRC) and the initiatives of the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) as well as the Canadian Commission on Construction Materials Evaluation (CCCME). Responsibilities include planning, managing and implementing communications products, services and activities in support of internal and external communications needs and priorities of the Canadian Codes Centre (CCC) and the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC); providing operational communications services and advice to CCC and CCMC management; and preparing or managing the production of a wide range of communications products, including information, promotional and media materials and the ongoing maintenance and updating of information on the National Code Documents, CCC and CCMC websites.

 

Your credentials

 

EDUCATION:  A degree from a recognized university in communications or in a scientific/technical field is required. 

 

EXPERIENCE:  

Extensive experience in providing communications services in a regulatory agency, the construction industry or a science and technology transfer environment.

Demonstrated experience in researching, writing and producing print and electronic communications products.

Experience in working with internal and external clients.

Experience with computers and software, and familiarity with the use of the World Wide Web.

 

Equivalency

Candidates with an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in communications activities, in the construction industry or a science and technology transfer environment, may also be considered.

 

Statement of Qualifications:

 

KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of current trends and techniques in technical information transfer and at least two of the following communications specializations: production and design, advertising and promotion and writing/editing.
  • Knowledge of project and contract management.
  • Knowledge of the Government of Canada’s communications policies and related guidelines.
  • Knowledge of NRC-IRC’s mission, in particular the mandate of the CCC and CCMC.
  • Ability to research and understand technically complex materials and to effectively target the information to specific stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and write a diverse range of print and electronic communications products.
  • Ability to use computer technology and tools, including Microsoft suite of products, for various communications media.

 

NOTE:  Candidates will be submitted to a written test in English.  Proficiency in writing a variety of reports in English is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Reliability Check.  Relocation costs may be negotiated.

 

SALARY: From $66,986 to $71,850 per annum plus the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 a year.
